Sixteen-year-old Sloane waits her for her turn to be tested in front of the whole school. A pinprick on her finger, a bright bead of blood, a strip of paper that changes color to reveal her true nature: Human or Monster. Humans go on to regular university while monsters are carted off to special schools to help them learn to control themselves in polite human society.
Sloane’s life evaporates in a moment when the principal calls out her fate, but even the monster school she is sent to can’t figure out what she is.
